India has appointed senior diplomat Gloria Gangte as the country’s next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Tuesday. She will soon assume charge in Oslo, marking another milestone in her extensive diplomatic career. As mentioned in the official release by the Ministry of External Affairs, Gangte currently serves as India’s High Commissioner to Malta.
A Veteran Diplomat with Diverse Expertise
An Indian Foreign Service officer of the 2000 batch, Gloria Gangte brings over two decades of diplomatic experience to her new post in Norway. Her career spans assignments in Europe, Latin America, and key multilateral institutions. Before her tenure in Malta, she served as Joint Secretary handling India’s relations with Latin American and Caribbean nations, covering more than 30 countries.
Her overseas postings have been equally distinguished. She worked as Deputy Chief of Mission in Rome and Muscat, Deputy Permanent Representative to UN agencies such as FAO, WFP, and IFAD, and has represented India at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Gangte has also held diplomatic roles in Spain and Argentina, covering political, cultural, and consular work.
Norway has emerged as a strategic partner for India, especially in areas like the blue economy, environment, energy cooperation, and Arctic studies. With her extensive international experience, Gangte’s appointment is expected to give fresh momentum to India’s engagement with Norway, particularly in climate diplomacy and trade.
